Could you tell us about yourself?
I’m a self taught graphic designer from Oxford, England. I have been creating fonts for 10+ years now. In 2014 my wife and I founded TheHungryJPEG.com. We sold the company to 123RF in 2018. Since then, I have set up Salt & Pepper Fonts. My team and I create all types and styles of fonts.
How long have you been in this industry?
I have been in this industry for about 5 years and above.
When did you know you wanted to pursue designing and start selling it?
I created my first font in 2012, which I gave away for free across various websites. That was when I got the idea to start my own marketplace and bundles website.
What inspires you the most? Where do you get your inspiration?
My favourite font style is from children’s books and TV shows. From that, we try to create cute, playful fonts and I actually get a lot of inspiration from my daughters’ story books.
Are you a traditional or digital artist? What are your preferred mediums to create your designs and graphics?
I am awful at drawing. I am strictly digital only. I mainly work with Illustrator and Photoshop.
Could you describe your design style?
Salt & Pepper Designs create a wide range of styles but my own preferred style is playful and cute.
What is your favorite part of the designing process?
Seeing the individual letters were put together, creating words and sentences with the letters we have created. Then editing and changing each, if the feel is not right.
Have you ever experienced creative blocks before? How did you handle it?
Yeah nearly everyday. The best way to handle it is to step away and come back later with a fresh approach.
