It’s time of the week again! This time around, I would like to draw your attention to our graphic designer of the week, Stars n Skies who has been with THJ since 2019. A very versatile graphic designer, I would say. From animal-themed designs to a Scandinavian-inspired patterns, Stars n Skies is definitely a jack of all trades! Check out our interview session below;
Could you tell us about yourself?
I am a full time graphic designer, and on the side, I love to experiment and try out new creative activities such as paper crafts, painting, bookbinding and more.
How long have you been in this industry?
I have been in this industry for 5 years and above.
When did you know you wanted to pursue designing and start selling it?
Ever since I was young! It was a thing so deeply ingrained in my daily life by my mother who encouraged me to pursue various creative activities. Fast forward a few years when I was feeling a little bummed from all the deadlines and creative block, I started creating something for myself as a means of escapism. It was then, after a good friend of mine encouraged me to sell what I love doing.
What inspires you the most? Where do you get your inspiration?
Most of my inspirations came from story books, games, and most importantly, my dog and cats!
Are you a traditional or digital artist? What are your preferred mediums to create your designs and graphics?
I would say I’m a mix of both. Usually I would sketch my ideas with a pencil and paper, and transfer them digitally for touch-up and other effects. I still love the feel and flow of traditional media. 🙂
Could you describe your design style?
I would say a mix between elegant intricate and quirky fun. ;P
What is your favorite part of the designing process?
It’s researching, of course! Though it’ll take hours, if not days to get into the final decision. There’s just too many ideas!
Have you ever experienced creative blocks before? How did you handle it?
Of course! I just need to remind myself to take a step back, maybe look at more Pinterest pins, play with my pets or sleep it off!

Do you have any advice or tips for future graphic designers out there?
Just start, and create whatever that comes into mind. Just thinking about it will not get you anywhere. Also, learn to love what you create. 🙂
