Lemaris has never failed to amaze me with their limited and stunning watercolor paintings. To express THJ’s love towards her arts and products, I would like to share about Marina, our contributor from Lemaris. Let us take a peek at this inspiring and jovial (just like her paintings!) illustrator’s creative journey.
Could you tell us about yourself?
Hi, I’m Marina, graphic designer and illustrator from Siberia, Russia. Now I live in Moscow. When I was a child, I fell in love with painting. I remember how I used to paint everything that surrounded me, and I never missed an opportunity to create something beautiful. I also enjoy taking classes in my spare time, from learning watercolor techniques to lettering. Hopefully in the future I will be able to use the skills I have learned to take my illustrations even further. I am a mother of two boys and my family is my support and inspiration. I love life and try to find happiness every day.
How long have you been in this industry?
I have been in this industry for 5 years and above.
When did you know you wanted to pursue designing and start selling it?
When I was a graphic designer in a small Moscow company, I realized that I was happier working on the illustrations than the actual design work, and toyed with the idea of doing it full time. I wanted something else — something that will give me more freedom and creativity. Then when I became a mother, I understood that I needed a free schedule and a lot of time to spend with my family. Fortunately, my family supported me all the way. Now I cannot imagine my life without painting. This is how I came to stock illustration.
What inspires you the most? Where do you get your inspiration?
I am inspired by many things – nature, people, my children. I like traveling very much. A change of scenery always gives me a lot of impressions. I learned to observe the world around me, noticing color combinations and textures. I also follow many illustrators and creators on social media, and I am constantly learning on how to push my craft just from looking at the things they have created.
Are you a traditional or digital artist? What are your preferred mediums to create your designs and graphics?
I’m a traditional artist. Watercolor is my favorite medium. For me, it is all about the transparency and glow that you can achieve with this media. Watercolor is hypnotic and addictive. Sometimes I experiment with other media, but I think watercolor will forever remain in my heart as my most favorite material.

Marina’s arts are special and limited due to its sentimental value from her personal touch, which you can’t find elsewhere other than Lemaris. Check these out!
Could you describe your design style?
I create light transparent illustrations that combine easily. My illustrations are gentle, delicate and they fully reflect my mood.
What is your favorite part of the designing process?
Of course the painting process. It’s magical. I always experiment, and in the flow, I can change the original concept. In general, it is always very unpredictable and depends on my mood. The technical side of watercolor set creation is also interesting of course, but it is more predictable.
Have you ever experienced creative blocks before? How did you handle it?
Any creative person is experiencing this state. I’m not an exception. A change of scenery and communication with my friends always help me. A walk in the forest or even just the park can be a fantastic journey. I allow myself to take a break and be filled with positive emotions.

Do you have any advice or tips for future graphic designers out there?
The only advice is to draw what you like. Then, the creative energy will not fade away with time but will only increase. Always listen to yourself and don’t stop learning.
